When your child is sick, you worry and do what you can to make them feel better. In January 2015, 10-year old Briony Caitlin Klingberg was feverish. When Briony stopped eating – her mother, Bridget became alarmed. One doctor gave her antibiotics and scheduled a follow-up appointment for one week; Briony died before that appointment.
Briony was an active girl living in Adelaide, Australia. She suddenly got so sick she stopped eating and drinking because it was hard for her to swallow. Bridget took her to several doctors, and no one could figure out what the cause of her illness was.
When some ulcers were found in Briony’s throat, she was given antibiotics. But the herpes simplex virus that Briony had was more severe. Briony died three days after being given the antibiotics.
