A school bus in Tennessee that was carrying 35 children crashed on November 21, five children lost their lives, and the bus driver was arrested. Johnthony Walker, 24, has been charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving. He may also face more charges once the case is transferred to a Hamilton Grand Jury, according to Chattanooga police Chief Fred Fletcher.
Early reports said that six children had been killed, that number was changed to five by police. The bus Walker was driving crashed and ended up wrapped around a tree. The five children were killed instantly.
Fletcher said that crash was something that no public safety professional ever wants to see. Law enforcement officials have found that speed was a very strong factor in the cause of the crash.
The children riding the bus ranged from kindergarten to fifth grade, six of them are still hospitalized but are not seriously injured.
