Finding an abandoned baby can set our protective modes into overdrive. We don’t understand why someone would abandon the defenceless creature, but we have to do the best we can in order to make sure that they get everything they need.
And this baby couldn’t have asked for a better rescuer. An expert who worked at the Monterey Bay Aquarium was walking by his home when he heard the sound of crying and went to investigate.
What he found was an abandoned baby otter with no one to take care of it. He gathered the baby in his arms and walked up and down the beach in an attempt to find it’s mother, but found no one.
When that didn’t work, he decided to take the four-week old baby to the aquarium where it could be provided with some help.
Usually, orphaned otters would be paired with the adults there in order to help them recover so that they can be returned to the wild.
