Raise your hand if you like to get shots or have your blood drawn! No one? Right, me either! Some of us have sneaky or small veins that make it hard for the technician or nurse to find and hit on the first try. Christie Medical Holdings, a Memphis-based company, has developed a Vein Viewer that uses near-infrared light to make your veins easier to see.
The patient’s veins glow a bright teal color when the infrared light is absorbed by the hemoglobin in their blood. Vein Viewer can find veins that are nearly half an inch deep! The Vein Viewer unit can be a handheld device or attached to a moveable right so the patient’s skin can be quickly scanned.

Christie Medical’s president says the clinical studies with the instrument got 100% patient satisfaction because “first-stick success” (finding the vein on the first try) was increased. Share away, people!
